Dana was born in 1959 and raised in the rural suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts.
At an early age, Dana’s fascination with the natural world and all it’s wonders became quite evident. His summers and virtually all of his free time were often spent playing in the woods and fields around his home or exploring the coastal areas alongside their cottage in southern Maine.
While in Maine, Dana’s first peek into the world of fine art occurred. Unaware at the time how this may impact his future, Dana reflects fondly of an artist who regularly painted and exhibited his work in the parking lot of Perkin's Cove in Ogunquit.
See, when Dana was in grade school he was asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
His response “I want to be a Farmer, Veterinarian or an Artist.”
As he grew older, he quickly realized his passion for art would soon dwarf the idea of being a farmer or a veterinarian, In fact…
In Dana’s senior year of High School his impressive collection of artwork rewarded him with a win in the portfolio competition and he was awarded a scholarship to attend college.
His talents were obvious, his passion undeniable, his ability to tell a story with a canvas and a brush was easily recognizable and admired by friends, fellow artists and critics alike.
Dana said: "I'm simply trying to capture the "awe" that inspires me, while creating art that says something about who I am on a personal level."
You would find no one to argue his ability to do just that, so…
In 1977 Dana’s scholarship was used to develop his talents at the School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA.
After college, the arts remained his heart centered drive, although at the time he found himself unsure how to turn this dream into a full time living.
His part time restaurant work became full time. Soon, he found himself climbing the ladder to management positions, and eventually to owning and operating a highly unique restaurant in the 1980’s, called “Classics Coffee Shoppe” in Nashua, NH.
In the 90’s. Dana decided to pour his creative passion into another business. This time, it was devoted to landscape design and gardening, which he continued to operate successfully for over fifteen years.
Throughout Dana’s life of self discovery and expression -- he remained true to his dream, breathing creativity and life into each endeavor, some of which include:
· Painting
· Menu design
· Interior design
· Yearbook photography
· Illustrations
· Commissioned murals and artwork
· Visual display
· Website design and photography
Over the last 30 years, Dana has exhibited artwork at various galleries and shows including his first solo show at New Hampshire College in the early 90's.
Today, Dana continues to share his love and passion for art and is proud owner of a gallery-shop named "Class Art and Antiques" in Downtown Plymouth, MA. When you visit, you'll often find him with brush in hand, painting at his easel.
He proudly exhibits and sells his art work alongside an extremely talented group of renowned local artists. Dana’s artwork is classical realism. His subject matter varies from unique natural-light still life images to traditional landscapes, portraits and figural work. His medium of choice is oil paint. Whenever he gets the opportunity, Dana paints outdoors in the highly popular “Plein Air” style of painting. He says, “I love to explore and hunt for images, then I set up my easel and capture the phenomenal beauty of the landscape."
